Caring for your new tattoo

  • Your Tattooist will have applied Bepanthen cream to your new tattoo, and covered it with a sheath of Glad Wrap, to prevent it from spreading onto your clothing.
  • Remove the bandaging after one (1) hour. Gently wash it with warm soapy water to remove the dried blood. There is no need to cleanse it as thoroughly again.
  • Apply fresh Bepanthen cream to your tattoo four (4) times a day until all the scabbing has cleared. Do not Glad Wrap the tattoo again. However, you may Glad Wrap it before sleeping to prevent mess.
  • You may gently and quickly wash it once a day for the next three (3) days. Avoid soaking your tattoo with excessive water whilst bathing or showering. Do not enter chlorinated water until all scabbing has cleared.
  • Around the 4th or 5th day your new tattoo will have formed a light scabbing. This will gradually peel off in the next 3 or more days with regular application of Bepanthen cream.

Whilst applying the cream, do not deliberately rub it to remove scabbing. The scabbing must come off on iis own accord, and this process is assisted with the gentle and constant application of Bepanthen cream.

Do not pick or rub the scabbing as this will prolong the healing process and may result in colour loss and/or fading.

  • Once all the scabbing has cleared, apply Bepanthen for the next week.
  • To maintain your tattoo, we recommend regular application of Vitamin E cream. The application of sunscreen is also recommended during exposure to the sun.

Please note that the time frames indicated above are a guide only. The time required for healing will vary amongst individuals.
